V&T 11 |
| Description: |
Virginia and Truckee 11, a Baldwin 4-4-0, is on display in Tucson. This area, known as Old Tucson, was the filing site of countless western movies. Reno itself was filmed in several movies, TV shows, and commercials here, including the movies Union Pacific, Little House On The Prairie, and dozens of others. The unit was damaged in a fire in 1995, but has since been restored. The engine was built in 1872, and was the oldest of the 8 Baldwins that ran on the line. The unidentified boxcar appears to be of a typical 1880s design. |

A scan of aerial image depicting the Western Pacific shops in Sacramento, located on 12th Ave. and 21st St. The large building in the center is the main shop building, with a transfer table and storage tracks in the foreground. The large building in the top appears to be a reefer building, used for loading ice into the roof hatches on the wooden reefers of the time. Northeastern Kansas and Missouri Trackage |
| Description: |
NAHX 65527 sits abandoned in the shadow of the two grain elevators in Robinson, Kansas. The track at left was a former Union Pacific line connecting Marysville, Kansas to St. Joeseph, Missouri, the childhood home of Jesse James. In 1990, the UP spun off the line and it became the short-lived Northeast Kansas and Missouri Railroad. In 1999, the NEKM sold the portion of the line from Marysville to Hiawatha back to UP, and the rest of the line was mostly torn up or abandoned. |
